Learning from someone who has already been there
Twenty-eight Software Engineering students at VIA University College spent the spring helping each other navigate one of the biggest milestones in their education: finding an internship. Through a new mentoring programme, students with recent internship experience shared practical advice, honest reflections and lessons learned with those about to begin the search themselves. For many students, the road to an internship can feel uncertain. Where should you apply? What are Danish employers looking for? What is it actually like to work in a Danish company? These were some of the questions at the centre of a pilot mentor programme developed within the Software Engineering programme at VIA University College as part of Work Without Borders. By bringing together students who had recently completed internships with those preparing to start the process, the initiative created a space for conversations that rarely happen in the classroom but can make a real difference when it comes to taking th

New Mentor Programme Connects International Talent with Local Networks in Aarhus
Finding a job is about more than sending applications. For many international graduates, building networks and understanding the Danish labour market can be just as important. A new mentor programme from Studenterhus Aarhus, Erhverv Aarhus and Job Aarhus is helping internationals take that next step. It's Good to Have Someone in Your Corner For many internationals in Denmark, finding a job starts long before a vacancy is posted online. According to figures presented during the evening, up to 60% of jobs in Denmark are filled without ever being advertised. That makes professional networks, local knowledge and personal connections essential tools for anyone trying to enter the Danish labour market. Recognising this challenge, Studenterhus Aarhus, Erhverv Aarhus and Job Aarhus joined forces to launch a new mentorship programme under the Work Without Borders project. Through a careful matching process, 20 mentors have been paired with international graduates and jobseekers from a wide rang

Mentorship and Networks Open Doors for International Talent in Aarhus
Lessons from a pilot mentor programme show how professional guidance, stronger networks, and realistic expectations can help international graduates take the next step into the Scandinavian labour market. Connecting international talent with employers is at the heart of Work Without Borders. Across Denmark, Sweden, and Norway, project partners are developing and testing methods that strengthen labour market participation and improve the retention of international students and graduates. One of these methods is mentoring, creating direct connections between international talent and experienced professionals from the business community. This spring, Erhverv Aarhus tested an international mentoring initiative as part of the project's efforts to support international graduates in their transition to employment. The programme builds on a well-established mentoring model that has already demonstrated strong results in helping highly educated job seekers build networks, gain labour market ins

Talents in Networks brings international talent closer to opportunities in Agder
A professional network can open doors that job applications alone cannot. That is the idea behind Talents in Networks, a new initiative launched in Agder as part of the Work Without Borders project. The programme connects international talent with local professionals who can help them navigate the regional labour market, expand their networks, and gain a deeper understanding of professional life in Southern Norway. This spring, four carefully matched pairs were introduced: four international talents and four dedicated "door openers". Over the coming months, they will meet regularly, share experiences, and build meaningful relationships. Through these connections, participants gain access to local knowledge, professional networks, and insights that are often difficult to acquire through formal recruitment channels alone. Unlike traditional mentoring programmes, Talents in Networks is built around genuine human connection. The focus is not on formal mentoring sessions or predefined caree
